Who can attend Rooted School Cleveland?
Rooted School Cleveland is a tuition-free public charter school open to eligible students living within our enrollment area. Admission is not based on grades, test scores, prior academic achievement, or career interests. If more students apply than there are seats available, admission is determined through a public lottery in accordance with Ohio law.
Can my child attend Rooted if they have an IEP or 504 Plan?
Yes. Rooted School Cleveland welcomes students with IEPs and 504 Plans. Our special education team works alongside classroom teachers to provide the services, accommodations, and supports each student needs to succeed. Every student deserves access to rigorous learning, meaningful relationships, and real-world experiences.
Where will the school be located?
Rooted is intentionally seeking a campus near downtown Cleveland and the Health-Tech Corridor, close to hospitals, manufacturers, design firms, technology companies, colleges, and public transit. Our goal is to place students where classrooms connect naturally to internships, field experiences, mentors, and the opportunities that shape their future.
When does enrollment open and how do I apply?
We are building our interest list now. Enrollment opens in late 2026 for our inaugural Fall 2027 class. We will open with grades 6 and 9, welcoming students currently in 5th and 8th grade. Join our interest list to be among the first to know when applications become available.
Why is Rooted a grades 6–12 school?
Rooted School Cleveland serves grades 6 through 12 as one continuous school community. Students experience developmentally appropriate middle and high school programs while benefiting from a consistent model, long-term relationships, and a shared vision for learning. Career exploration begins in 6th grade, marking the beginning of a seven-year journey toward college and careers rather than the end of an elementary school experience. The continuum is intentional. It gives students time to deepen their interests, build confidence, and transition naturally into high school without changing schools. By Fall 2030, Rooted will serve the full 6–12 continuum.
What career pathways will be available?
Our founding career pathways are Health Sciences, Advanced Manufacturing, and Information Technology. Each pathway combines rigorous academics with authentic projects, industry experiences, and workforce credentials recognized by employers and colleges. As the school grows, our pathway offerings will continue to evolve alongside Cleveland's workforce and community needs.
